London Trip 2014

On Friday 19th September 2014, a small but highly distinguished deputation from Lodge Buchan St John once again set off for London.   Robert Stalker RWM, Brian Mitchell PM, Mark Gibson PM, David Rintoul PM, Rod McAlpine WJW and special guest Alan Banks SM of Lodge Kirknewton & Ratho No 85 caught the 9.30 am train to Kings Cross where they were met by Tom Quinn PM.

Exactly 10 years ago to the weekend, David Rintoul PM had taken a deputation of eleven brethren to London to witness Tom Quinn PM being installed into the chair of Neleus Lodge No 3062 English Constitution and here once again the brethren were making the trip to witness the Installation of a new master in Neleus Lodge No 3062.

After arriving at Kings Cross the brethren made their way across town to their hotel, where after checking in and dropping their bags, they headed off on a walking tour of some of the finer sights of London.   After what appeared several miles and “only” a couple of watering holes, they arrived in China Town where they dined for the evening.

On Saturday the brethren made their way to the Grand Lodge of England where they had an extensive tour of the Building.   The Main Temple and Museum proved of particular interest.   Following this tour they made their way back to the hotel, where they quickly changed and set off for the Masonic Centre at Beaconsfield.   The Installation was of a very high standard and quite different to the Scottish Installation.    The brethren were made most welcome and the hospitality was to an exceptionally high standard.   Tom Quinn PM gave an eloquent and most amusing toast to the Visitors and David Rintoul PM replied in a similar manner.   Robert Stalker RWM, made a presentation to the new Master of a Malt whisky, a 636 tie and Mark Penny.

On Sunday morning after breakfast and a short walk down Regents Street to

Marble Arch, the brethren made their way back to Kings Cross where, like many a Scotsman before them, they caught the train back to Bonnie Scotland.

Deputation to Ratho

Friday 11th April 2014

On Friday evening, whilst the RWM was sunning himself in the tropical climes of Abu Dhabi, Brother David Forrest PM led a deputation of twelve brethren from 636 to Lodge Kirknewton and Ratho No 85.   RWM Ian Harrower welcomed the brethren and thanked the members of 636 for coming along in such a large number.

After the usual formalities we were then entertained to a very good working of the1st degree on one substitute candidate.   Following the meeting, almost all the 636 brethren remained behind to enjoy a spot of lodge hospitality and the infamous Ratho entertainment.

Provincial Charity Dinner

29th March 2014

During the past year, the Provincial Grand Master has been leading his Charity Fund Raising year.   Around the Province, the Brethren have been carrying out various activities in an attempt to raise the target of £ 20,000.   The final sum raised was

£ 25,840 and this money was divided equally amongst all the Lodges in the Province, to present to their chosen charity, or charity’s.

Lodge Buchan St. John chose “The Children’s Liver Foundation” as it’s charity and at the Gala Dinner, Brother David Forrest PM presented the charity with a cheque for £1,360.   The pictures attached are show Brother Forrest making the presentation.

They also show the “636” brethren who attended on the evening along with their wives.

Thereafter, the brethren and gentlemen were warmly entertained to songs and poetry of Robert Burns, delivered by John Close MM 1614, Murray Speirs PM 636 and James Black PM 636.   Particular thanks must go to James Black PM and Murray Speirs PM who provided so much of the evening’s entertainment.
